Lōkahi Ola Method Workbook
A practical companion to Ashes Still Sing: A Marine’s Reckoning. The memoir tells the story. The workbook helps you practice.
Where this stands
The workbook is in development. This is a draft, and the memoir is not yet published. There is nothing to buy or order yet.
Right now you can do three things: read a sample lesson, join the interest list, or talk to me about coaching.
What it is for
- Faithful daily habits. One practice for the body, one for the mind, one for the soul, each with a small version for hard days.
- Recognizing destructive patterns. Name the cue, the feeling, and what you usually do next, before you are in the middle of it.
- Preparing your environment. Change what is easy to begin and what is constantly cued, so you are not leaning on motivation.
- Returning after setbacks. A missed day is not a verdict. You do the small version and go on.
How it is built
The working plan is sixteen lessons, one for each chapter of the memoir. Every lesson has the same shape:
- A short story.
- Scripture, read in context.
- A few honest questions.
- A written plan for one practice.
- A plan for the obstacle you can already see.
- Try the plan once.
- A review and a prayer.
Every exercise tells you how long it takes, shows a completed example, and ends with the next step. The plan may change as lessons are written and tested.
The sample
The sample is nine pages: a one-page Start Here guide, one complete lesson called The Comparison Thief (seven pages), and a one-page, seven-day check-in, Day 1 through Day 7, that you can fill in or print. It is a draft. Names, scenes, and wording may change.
On a phone, you can type into the sample on this site. What you type stays on your device and is never sent. The PDF is fillable too, or you can print it.
What it stands on
The workbook is Christian. It rests on Scripture and depends on God’s grace and the Holy Spirit. The practices are a response to faith, not a way to earn it. The method in full explains how.
It offers discipleship, life skills, and coaching exercises. It is not medical care or therapy, and coaching supports professional care without replacing it.

I write the Sunday letters on Substack, where you can read and reply. A 365-day calendar may someday grow from those Sunday lessons. It is not a product.
